What is the purpose of a girth?
A girth is a piece of basic equipment you need when you want to start horseback riding. A girth is used to keep the saddle in place on a horse. It passes under the belly of the horse and is attached to the saddle on both sides.
What is a jumping girth?
Jumping girths are mainly used for showjumping. Since the saddles that are used for showjumping, have shorter saddle flaps, jumping girths are longer than dressage girths. This holds the saddle securely in place.
We offer different types of jumping girths, such as the stud girth. A stud girth limits the risk of injuries caused by horseshoes or studs. All of our girths are anatomically shaped to provide excellent comfort and freedom of movement when jumping. And it’s important to have eyelets for attaching the reins and breastplate.
Kentucky Horsewear strongly believes in the importance of developing good products for horses. Take a look at our range on our website and choose a girth to suit your jumping horse.
Which girth size does my horse need?
Finding the right size of girth is essential to ensure you can ride your horse safely. If you already have a girth that fits your horse, you could measure your old girth to see which size you need. But if you have a new horse or a new saddle, you could first of all try a friend’s girth to see which length fits your saddle and horse best.
Your girth should naturally fit around the straps' middle hole to give yourself room to gradually tighten the straps up by going up a few holes evenly on either side. Ask someone to help you measure your horse, and always bear in mind that you need to buckle the horse again later – so measure carefully and don’t choose a girth that’s too tight. It is particularly important that jumping horses have sufficient freedom of movement.
Where should my girth sit on my horse? A correctly fastened jumping girth should be approximately one hand’s width behind the horse’s elbows to allow your horse to move freely.
How do I keep my Kentucky Horsewear jumping girth clean?
Our Kentucky Horsewear jump girths are very easy to keep clean. The artificial leather is waterproof, so you could even use it during a thunderstorm without any problems. Spraying the girth with our tack cleaner will keep it in perfect condition. The spray is then easy to wipe with a clean cloth. Also, if your girth has artificial sheepskin, you can easily clean this component in the washing machine at a temperature below 30°C. So go for quality and durability and choose one of our jumping girths.
What jumping girths does Kentucky Horsewear offer?
